TISCA WATER POLO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

FORMAT:  16 Team Championship Format for each gender (32 teams total).  All teams will receive at least two games.

POOL DESCRIPTION: Games are played in two 25 yard pools that are seven (7) feet deep.  The shallow area is in between the two 25 yard pools and is four (4) lanes wide and (4) feet deep.

RULES: 2010 National Federation Rules will apply with the following clarifications; 
  • Team on top of bracket wears dark caps. 
  • Tournament games # 1 - 28 are six (6) minute quarters. Games 29 - 44 are consolation games with five (5) minute quarters. 
  • Third place and championship games are seven (7) minute quarters.
  • Each team will be allowed three – 2 minute time outs per game. 
  • There will be a 5 minute half-time and 2 minutes between each period. 
  • All teams will switch ends after the half-time. 
  • Games 1-28 and all Championship games that end in a tie after regulation play will have a five minute break followed by two periods, each of three minutes actual play, with a two minute break between periods to change ends.  If there is still a tie after the two periods of overtime, a two-minute interval will take place followed by a three-minute sudden death overtime.  The first goal wins in sudden death.  See Rule 11, Section 3, for the complete rule. * Note:  If we have many of these we will not be able to stay on our hourly schedule.
  • Consolation games that end in a tie will play one-3 minute OT period to a Sudden Death goal (first goal wins).  If no goal is scored the game will end in a tie.
  • Goal judges will be used for all championship games.

QUALIFIERS:  Top four (4) teams for each gender qualify from the four regions in Texas (San Antonio, two regions in Houston, and the North Texas Region.  IMPORTANT: E-mail rosters/photographs to BOTH Christy Louton at clouton@sbcglobal.net AND Robert Laura, Tournament Director, at Robert.laura@nisd.net.  Deadline for entry requirements is Monday, April 19th, no later than 9:00 a.m.

AWARDS:  First through third place banners, MVP trophies and All-State recognitions for both girls and boys.  All-State Team selections will receive a certificate for their recognition.

ENTRIES/ROSTERS DUE: All qualifying teams need to submit a complete team roster AND team photograph.  Please provide cap numbers and grade level for each athlete when you submit your roster.  A roster form is attached.  Captains names, mascot, colors, current record, and all coaches names should also be provided with the team roster. Entry fees must be received before a team will be allowed to play in the tournament.  Tournament entries/rosters for the tournament program must be e-mailed to BOTH Christy Louton at clouton@sbcglobal.net AND Robert Laura, Tournament Director, at Robert.laura@nisd.net by Monday, April 19th, no later than 9:00 a.m.  

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: A general schedule and bracket information is attached.

COACHES MEETING:  A general meeting for coaches and officials will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, at the host site in Classroom 103.  The coaches meeting will be from 8:00-9:00 p.m.  The officials meeting will be from 9:00-10:00 p.m.

TOURNAMENT PROGRAMS:  Programs with team pictures, rosters, game schedules and more will be available for $10 at the admissions table.

ADVERTISEMENTS: If you want to place an ad for a business, your team or athlete, a copy of your information must be received by Christy Louton at clouton@sbcglobal.net by Monday, April 19th, no later than 9:00 a.m.

ADMISSION:$10.00 – Adults per day

PARKING:  Team and spectator parking is available at the Farris Athletic Complex for the entire tournament at no charge.

CONCESSIONS:  A great concessions stand will be open during the tournament.

HOSPITALITY:  A generous hospitality room will be available for coaches and officials.

MEET APPAREL:  Championship Tournament t-shirts and other items will be available for purchase.

NOISE MAKERS:  According to UIL rules, noise makers and laser pointing devices of any sort are not permitted anywhere within the Natatorium. This includes horns and musical instruments.

SECURITY:  To ensure a safe and positive environment for this event NISD will have police officers on site during the entire tournament to enforce all laws, rules, and district guidelines.  This tournament is to be a celebration of the sport of high school water polo and the expectation is for all athletes, coaches, and spectators to conduct themselves in the spirit of true sportsmanship.  Make good choices in words and actions so everyone will be able to enjoy their time at this tournament.

PHOTOGRAPHERS:   All deck photographers must be pre-approved by NISD Aquatics staff.  They will be subject to a contract and must do a NISD criminal background check before the first day of the competition.

LODGING:  A small list of hotels in the area is listed in the tournament information. Additional lodging can be found through Google.  Make reservations now as San Antonio will be in the midst of its Fiesta celebrations.

RESTAURANTS:  There are several restaurants on Loop 1604/151 and 410. Any of our friendly staff can provide you with directions and/or recommendations.

FIRST AID:Our facility will be staffed with several qualified Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR professionals.  Our First Aid office is located to your immediate left as you enter the Natatorium.

Tournament Expectations

District personnel are empowered to enforce any and all regulations that have been established by District Board of Trustees Minutes and/or Aquatics Policies for both facilities.
Coaches/Athletes/Teams:
--Are permitted one temporary banner or sign in the stands but they are NOT allowed to hang from any fixture or wall at the 1604 Northside Natatorium.
--Are the only ones allowed to bring coolers with outside drinks on deck. No outside food is allowed on deck or in the bleachers.
--Are expected to police your respective areas at the conclusion of the competition.
--Are expected to monitor athletes during the tournament and are responsible for the conduct of his/her team members while at the Natatorium.


Warm-Up:
--Water polo balls are NOT allowed in the warm up pool (4ft. area) at any time.  Water polo balls on deck must be secure in a ball bag. Throwing of water polo balls is allowed on the patio deck outside the building.  The 4 ft. area will be for swimming.  Warm up with the balls for teams scheduled to play next will occur in the game pools immediately after the completion of a game.

Spectators:
--Folding chairs are not allowed in the spectator area. The walkways must stay clear at all times, as per Fire Marshall regulations.
--Are not allowed on the blue deck or behind the teams at any time during the competition. Spectators are asked to find a seat in any of the bleachers surrounding the competition pool(s).
--No outside food, drinks or coolers will be allowed by spectators inside the Natatorium.
--Glass containers of any sort and chewing gum are not permitted anywhere within the facility.

The use and possession of tobacco products and/or alcoholic beverages and the possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited at every NISD facility or property by direction of the Board of Trustees. This includes any part of the parking lots.

Face-painting or body painting of any kind is not permitted at the Natatorium.
Safety first: running or any other sort of activity that might be interpreted or described as “horseplay” is prohibited throughout the entire facility.

Access to the blue deck of the 1604 Natatorium is restricted to the following:

3.*Coaches of competing teams and Facility/District Staff
4.  Officials working the meet
